Bucs Announce When They'll Make Starting Quarterback Decision

The Buccaneers‘ coaching staff has been tasked with the impossible this offseason. They must find a way to replace Tom Brady at quarterback.

Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask are considered the top options for the No. 1 spot on the depth chart in Tampa. Both quarterbacks have the talent to succeed in the NFL, but neither one has earned the starting gig yet.

Speaking to the media this week, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles revealed when a final decision will be made. Bowles claims the Buccaneers will name a starting quarterback either during training camp or immediately after it’s over. “Some time during camp or right after there will be a decision made,” Bowles said, via the Associated Press.

“It’s still a competition right now. We’re not going to award [anybody] in shorts and T-shirts. In any competition, there’s waiting involved.”

“You have to see who wins.” Mayfield showed signs of life at the end of the 2022 season, throwing for 850 yards and four touchdowns in five games with the Rams. Trask, meanwhile, has attempted just nine passes since being drafted in 2021.
