Bengals' Pro Bowler doubles down on defending Joe Burrow

The no shortage of big-time players in the Cincinnati Bengals, especially on the offensive side of the ball. At the top, is quarterback Joe Burrow, who has established himself as not only one of the best signal callers but one of the best players regardless of position.

His main target, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, didn’t hold back recently when he was asked who the top player in the entire NFL was.

“Joe Burrow,” Chase said.

Burrow has certainly given Chase a plethora of reasons to feel the way he does. The former first-round pick currently has the NFL record for completion percentage (68.2) while leading the Bengals to multiple AFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance since 2021.

The former first-round pick doesn’t just want to be best at his position, though, he wants to be the top player period.

“Being the best in the world,” said Burrow. “I think that’s always been my goal.”

Burrow is regularly compared to quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. Their talent is the main reason of course, but the fact that they’ve played each other in back-to-back conference title games has made them huge rivals.

That didn’t stop Burrow from giving Mahomes a huge compliment when he was asked who the best player in the league is today.

‘I don’t think there’s any argument right now, it’s Pat,” Burrow said. “Until somebody has a better year than he’s had, he’s the one to knock off.

Mahomes led the NFL in passing yards (5,250) and passing touchdowns (41) in 2022. Also, he won league and Super Bowl MVP honors.

Don’t tell Chase that.

The 2021 Offensive Rookie of the Year spoke to reporters at his locker on Tuesday. Chase doubled down on his quarterback being the alpha dog league-wide regardless of position, and when he was told that Burrow said it was “Pat”, he gave a fiery answer.

“Pat who?” Chase said.

Needless to say, Chase isn’t going to be convinced otherwise, even if Burrow himself disagrees.
