The Green Bay Packers are looking to replace the production left behind by franchise legend Davante Adams, who is now in Las Vegas, and also speedster Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who is now in Kansas City.

The team signed free agent Sammy Watkins to a one-year deal earlier this offseason.

They also added three new rookies in April’s NFL Draft, including North Dakota State’s Christian Watson. Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard are also back for another year, along with second-year receiver Amari Rodgers.

As of now, though, the team is lacking a true No. 1 receiver that can put up that kind of production.

A player like Diontae Johnson, who is looking for a new contract, could be an interesting trade target for Packers GM Brian Gutekunst.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t reportedly pay Johnson’s goal of at least $22M per year.

If the two parties cannot agree to a new deal, Johnson might be thinking about playing elsewhere.

The Packers make a lot of sense considering they don’t have a Pro Bowl receiver on the roster, and they are also out of conference.

Pittsburgh wouldn’t play them very often. Johnson had one of the better seasons in the NFL in 2021 among his fellow receivers.

He set career-highs in receptions (107), receiving yards (1,161), and receiving touchdowns with eight.

Although drops have been an issue (24 in three seasons), Johnson has proven that he can handle the responsibilities of being the No. 1 receiver on a playoff team with a Hall of Fame quarterback and winning head coach.

Johnson was also named a Second-Team All-Pro as a punt returner during his rookie year in 2019.

His return skills could certainly be of use to new Packers Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.

It appears as though Johnson is just starting to enter the prime of his career at age 26. Green Bay could eventually pay what Johnson is asking for.

They were willing to pay Davante Adams $28M per year before he asked to be traded to Las Vegas.

But the Packers would have everything they need in their receiving core to be a successful offense if they traded for Diontae Johnson. Time will tell if they can make a deal happen.
