Lewis Hamilton makes another bold fashion statement as he steps out in a lilac sweater and matching jeans ahead of the Turkish Grand Prix

Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton earned a rare red flag on Sunday ahead of his bid to win the Turkish Grand Prix. The celebrated driver, 36 – famed for his outlandish wardrobe – turned heads in a distinctive lilac hoodie with matching lilac coloured jeans and white trainers. Wearing his dreadlocked hair high on the top of his head, the star observed Turkish Covid rules by wearing a protective mask in preparation for his latest race.

On his performance today Lewis say’s he’ll be ‘partly cautious but also super attacking’ as he looks to come through from 11th on the grid to win the coveted GP. Speaking to Sky, the Mercedes driver insists that his only Turkish GP target is to win despite the grid penalty that will see him start 11th rather than at the front.

Hamilton topped Saturday’s qualifying session, but his 10-place grid penalty for a new Mercedes engine means he has a recovery mission on his hands to limit the damage in his title fight against Max Verstappe. The championship leader has several fast midfield cars between himself and Verstappen, who starts second behind Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas. But the Mercedes driver the says he only has one thing on his mind. ‘My eyes are still solely set on winning the race,’ Hamilton told Sky Sports F1. ‘It’s going to be very hard from 11th, but not impossible. Lewis Hamilton has been driving us crazy (excuse the pun!) with his lewks of late. From the Met Gala masterpiece to his everyday ensembles, he has really stepped up his style game. Cutting a casual figure, this time he opted for athleisure attire, and the item everyone needs in their wardrobe at that. All hail the hoodie! If the numerous lockdowns taught us anything, it is that this invention needs to be a staple in your wardrobe, always!

While we ride the sports luxe trend, investing in a premium pick with a slogan or a logo has become a status symbol from Yeezy to Sporty & Rich and let’s not forget Essentials. Lewis’s lilac laid back look hails from label Reese Cooper and is dubbed the “Call of the wild” hoodie. Unfortunately, his exact colourway is no longer available, but don’t sweat it as we have found the exact style in a sapphire hue you can race to buy. If you aren’t feeling blue, then lust over our purple picks in the carousel…I don’t know what the weather’s going to do, so I’m just staying on my toes and just making sure that we deliver maximum attack.’ Hamilton, who has only claimed one of his 100 victories from lower than sixth on the grid (14th at 2018 German GP), added that he was going to be ‘partly cautious but also super attacking’. ‘I’m just going to take it one step at a time,’ he said.

‘It’s a long race and so, if I can be higher up early on, then great but I want to stay out of trouble. ‘That will probably be my priority initially, and then see if it’s possible to pick them off one by one.’ Red Bull team boss Christian Horner admitted Hamilton, who dominated qualifying, ‘looked the quickest he’s looked all year’ around a tricky Istanbul Park circuit the Englishman loves. But Mercedes’ Toto Wolff felt Hamilton has a ‘tough’ task ahead in the race, with overtaking difficult.
