Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead has labeled 2023 as a reset year for the franchise. But, when dissecting the moves that Los Angeles has made this offseason, it certainly looks like a rebuild is underway.

Head coach Sean McVay has expressed optimism despite this likely being a gap year for the franchise. For the first time as head coach, the Rams will be very active during the draft.

The 11 selections that they own are the most during the McVay era, giving the Rams plenty of opportunities to address their lack of depth on the roster. After years of giving away draft picks like Oprah gives away gifts around the holidays, the Rams reached the pinnacle by winning Super Bowl 56 over the Cincinnati Bengals.

But, the negatives of such an approach are now present, as the team has an older roster with as many holes as Swiss cheese.

With eight of their 11 picks coming in the 5th round or later, the Rams are going to be busy scouting players projected to go on Day 3.

One player who has seemingly piqued their interest is Boston College safety Jaiden Woodbey. According to Ryan Fowler of The Draft Network, the Rams met privately with Woodbey last week. Assistant head coach Jimmy Lake, special teams coach Chase Blackburn and linebackers coach Chris Shula were all at the meeting.

The Rams aren’t the only franchise that has shown interest in Woodbey. According to Fowler, the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts have also shown interest in him.

It is easy to see why Woodbey would garner some attention leading into the draft. He was a highly decorated recruit to Florida State, a five-star player out of St. John Bosco.

Woodbey made history with the Seminoles as one of nine true freshmen in program history to start an entire season. Even more impressive was the fact Woodbey accomplished all of that as a freshman with a torn labrum. Unfortunately, a devastating knee injury and the COVID-shortened season derailed his career.

With his football future up in the air, Woodbey found himself getting a fresh start at Boston College. It turned out to be the best decision of his career thus far, as Woodbey got his career on track.

Throughout his collegiate career, his versatility has been on display. He has vast experience playing college football for five years and succeeded in a multitude of schemes.

While he is listed as a safety, he is capable of filling numerous roles as he can cover running backs and tight ends in man, can find success blitzing and playing against the run. Adjusting to the speed, physicality and level of skill at the NFL will take a little bit of time, but the potential is there for Woodbey to develop into a useful defender.

At the very least, if the Rams were to select him, they would get a player that can be a special teams ace right off the bat.
