National media outlet says Bengals have a 'sleeper' who could be a star in 2023

The Cincinnati Bengals have a “sleeper” on their roster who could be a star in 2023 according to CBS Sports.

The national sports media outlet recently named an under-the-radar player from each AFC franchise that could make a bigger impact than expected in 2023.

And they went with a 2023 NFL Draft selection for the Bengals.

CBS Sports named running back Chase Brown, a former Illinois standout, as the Bengals player who could turn into a star this fall.

Cincinnati selected Brown in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

From CBS Sports: The Bengals selected Brown in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Illinois, but don’t let that Day 3 selection make you overlook the up-and-coming back. He had a tremendous college season last year, rushing for 1,643 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 27 catches for 240 yards. Joe Mixon is coming off a 2022 season where he averaged just 3.9 yards per rush. If his downward trajectory continues in 2023, Brown won’t simply be the No. 2 back on the depth chart but may rival for the starting spot at some point in the season.

Current starting running back Joe Mixon is under contract through the 2024 season. Considering Mixon will be 28 when the 2024 season starts, it’s safe to say that it will likely be the former Oklahoma standout’s last season with the Bengals.

That’s of course if Mixon is even on the roster in 2024. Cincinnati can move on from Mixon after the 2023 season and face just a $2.75 million dead cap hit.

If Brown performs well and becomes a star like CBS Sports suggests he could, then it’ll make the Bengals’ decision on Mixon after the 2023 season much easier.
