Lewis Hamilton was slammed into a fence by Jamie Carragher during 2015 5-a-side match

But in 2015, that dream came true for seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who took part in a 5-a-side match that saw his team of Arsenal legends take on Henry’s outfit of sporting celebrities.

everal other players rolled back the years for the event, including Sky Sports pundits Jamie Redknapp, Paul Merson and Jamie Carragher, who lined up against Hamilton’s squad of Arsenal icons.

But it was the former Liverpool captain, who is renowned for causing a stir in exhibition football matches, that stole the headlines during the game.

In 2016, Carragher came under fire during a charity football match where he planted his studs into the thigh of YouTuber Joe Weller and was seen by cameras calling the internet star a “stupid little p****.”

He was blasted by fans again in 2021 after he appeared to kick out at Love Island star Kem Cetinay during Soccer Aid. But it seems Carra really does have ‘no-chill’ when it comes to any sort of football match as the seven-time Formula One champion found out during the Hamilton vs Henry showcase.

Taking control of the ball, the F1 driver tried to skirt down the left wing but was met with a crunching shoulder from the Liverpool player who hammered the 37-year-old into the fence on the side of the pitch.

It looked a sore shot from Carragher, but Hamilton seemed mostly unscathed by the incident.

The 37-year-old had just come from finishing the Spanish Grand Prix and would jet off to Monaco two weeks later, where he would ultimately finish in third place, being bested by his old rival Nico Rosberg who took the top spot on the podium.

Yet, Carragher had no concerns that he might have put the F1 driver out of action ahead of his next race. Speaking after the match, he said: “He [Hamilton] has come here to play football and you’ve got to play our rules now.

“He had his shin pads on so I think he knew what to expect. He did very well and it was a good game to be involved in. “He’s quite strong. Even though I tried to leave one on him, I think I hurt myself there a little bit.”

Take a look at the video which captures the incident below…Brutal stuff from Carragher. Meanwhile, Hamilton has returned to the Mercedes factory this week as his Formula 1 team gear up for the start of the new season.

Question marks still remain over whether the driver will participate in the 2022 season, following the controversial end to the 2021 campaign.

But F1 fans will be optimistic with the news, reported per the BBC, that Hamilton is back completing pre-season checks, which could be a sign that the driver will be returning this season.
