Lewis Hamilton has been pictured wearing a funky tracksuit alongside American actor Ansel Elgort. The Brit ended his social media silence on Saturday, saying: “I’ve been gone.
Now I’m back!” And Mercedes have virtually confirmed his involvement for the upcoming campaign.
Hamilton was seen walking alongside actor Elgort, who has appeared in titles Baby Driver, The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent.
He’s been announced to feature in upcoming title Finest Kind, while he’s also scheduled to appear in TV series Tokyo Vice.
Elgort’s outfit appeared slightly bizarre, however, with the 27-year-old wearing an inflated coat with big, puffy arms.
Both men seemed to be holding a coffee in their hands as they took a stroll in the Big Apple. The sighting of Hamilton comes after the Mercedes star took to social media for the first time in 56 days.
During his hiatus, the 37-year-old unfollowed everybody from his Instagram account – including his own dog. Mercedes then appeared to virtually confirm the Stevenage-born racer would be part of their line-up for this season,
responding to Hamilton’s message by saying: “That’s right.” He’ll partner up with George Russell, who will step up following the departure of Valtteri Bottas to Alfa Romeo.
And whether he can win a historic eighth title remains to be seen. Meanwhile, MotoGP boss Carmelo Ezpeleta recently opened up on the frantic finale to the last F1 season.
And he’s suggested he wouldn’t want to see something like that unfold in his sport. “For me, no,” he told Marca when quizzed if such a dramatic title showdown was a dream for any championship.” I would not like to have a finish in MotoGP like the one in F1.
“I wish for two drivers fighting for the title in the last race, but the way the whole thing played out…”I’m not for or against anything.
“It was a fantastic championship, fought throughout the year but in the end, there were controversies that were not good.
“I like to have a championship, if possible, disputed until the very end.“ But I don’t like that after the end they created doubt, that the runner-up [Hamilton] doesn’t talk anymore. I certainly don’t dream about that.
“Although everyone was very happy from the point of view of the media impact with the 2015 mess between Rossi and Marquez, I don’t dream about those things.” The new F1 season is due to begin next month.
The first race of the season is in Bahrain on Sunday March 20, though the first practice session takes place two days before on March 18.
Hamilton, if he does win the title in 2022, will move ahead of Michael Schumacher on eight titles.
