Man Utd confirm Edinson Cavani plans after announcing Cristiano Ronaldo deal

Manchester United have confirmed their plans for Edinson Cavani after announcing that they have agreed a deal with Juventus to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo is set to agree on a two-year deal with the Red Devils and will undergo a medical in Lisbon after flying to Portugal from Turin on Friday following his declaration that he wanted to leave the Serie A side.

The forward, who has occupied a more central role in recent years, is set to be a monstrous edition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s front line, with the United paying Juventus an initial fee of €15million (£12.8m) and a potential €8million (£6.8m) in add-ons. That means Cavani’s place in the starting XI is under threat but club have no plans to sell the striker.

The 34-year-old has spent most of his Red Devils career playing in matches behind closed doors and was set to leave this summer, but the attraction of playing in front of over 75,000 fans is believed to be a large part of the Cavani’s decision to extend his contract and stay for another season as United ensured they had an out-and-out striker head into 2021-22.

Solskjaer had to the use aforementioned appeal to persuade the Uruguayan to remain in Manchester and he was granted an extended holiday during the negotiations in order to spend time with his family, meaning he has only recently returned to training.
