Formula One is welcoming a new era in 2022. The cars will be designed to promote better racing and hopefully more competition. As the start of the season gets closer and closer, the teams are slowly revealing the details about their cars. Mercedes disclosed the name of their 2022 car. The German team returned to the sport in 2010. They have dominated the Turbo-Hybrid era as they have won every single constructors’ championship since 2014.

In 2021, they raced with the W12, which meant that it was their 12th car in the sport since their return. According to Speedweek.com, Mercedes will race with W13 in the 2022 season, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell at the helm. They recently gave a sneak peek at their new darker silver livery for next season. As reported by Formula1.com, Russell, who will race for the German team in 2022,

believes that 5 teams could be competitive next season. The British driver mentioned every team will get faster from race one onwards and development would be key. I truly believe there are five teams all capable of really doing something special next year, so you’ve got to be absolutely on it, and I think development is going to be absolutely key [in 2022],” said Russell.

It’s not going to be whoever has the fastest car [at testing or the first race]; it’s whoever manages to understand the car well and can develop and build from those foundations throughout the year. And I think all of the teams are going to make big progress from race one to the end of the season.” said George. Everyone in the paddock is hoping that in 2022, they can challenge the mighty Mercedes. It could be a close season, as Russell predicts, or it could be another dominant one for the German team.
