Hamilton announces he is changing his name: What will he be called now and why is he doing it?

A few days before the first Formula 1 Grand Prix of the 2022 season, Lewis Hamilton has announced that he is planning to change his full name and include his mother’s surname, Larbalestier.

The successful Mercedes driver broke down the reasons behind his decision to do so at the age of 37 and expressed his hope for the change to take place soon. I am really proud of my family’s name,” said Hamilton.

“My mum’s name is Larbalestier and I am just about to put that in my name. I don’t really fully understand the whole idea that when people get married the woman loses her name and I really want my mum’s name to continue on with the Hamilton name.”

The seven-time Formula One world champion is not expected to participate in the upcoming GP in Bahrain under his new full name.
