Bengals veteran's decision leads to a friendly wager being paid

If nothing else, Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle BJ Hill is a man of his word.

The re-signing of linebacker Germaine Pratt did more than just maintain continuity for one of the NFL’s best defenses, it caused Hill to lose a bet that he hilarious made in the first place.

Before free agency, Hill wagered that if Pratt did re-sign with the team, he would shave his head completely bald. Days after the bet was made, Pratt inked a three-year deal to stick around in Cincy, and the ball (or razor) was in Hill’s court.

Two months later, Hill finally came through and had his head shaved, in the Bengals’ team meeting room nonetheless. He sported the new hairdo, or lack of it, over Twitter, and even pondered keeping the fresh look.

Hill and Pratt go way back to their college days. The two were teammates at NC State, playing years together before Hill left for the NFL in 2018. Pratt joined the league a year later in 2019 when he was drafted by the Bengals.

In 2021, the Bengals’ defense began to take its true form with Pratt ascending as a third-year player, and the addition of Hill via a trade leading up to the season gave the defensive line a needed boost.

Hill earned his big pay day a year ago, and Pratt followed suit the following offseason. But Pratt has been rocking the bald dome for a while now. For once, he beat Hill to something.
